All eight highly skilled GPs place a priority on promoting health and recognise it is the process of enabling people to increase control over the determinants of health and so improve their own health.
In conjunction with individual patients, the GPs advise on optimum targets for weight, waist measurements, blood pressure readings, blood lipid levels, blood glucose levels and exercise levels. They complete physical assessment scores on patients and provide advice if these need to be improved.
All GPs advise on standard childhood and adult vaccinations that prevent diseases and specific vaccinations and medications to prevent travel disease.
They value patient self-management and have been involved in the Australian Primary Care Collaborative in 2009-2011 focusing on active patient involvement.
